Molecular Virology Group, Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona
Positive-strand RNA viruses include major human pathogens such as the hepatitis C virus and the emerging Dengue virus Chikungunya virus and Zika virus. The main objective of our group is to study the complex cell-host interactions and regulatory mechanisms that these viruses exploit for ensuring their multiplication within host cells. With this purpose we combine biochemistry, cell culture, in vivo and –omic approaches.
Our group is integrated into the Biomedical Research Park of Barcelona (PRBB), one of the largest hubs of biomedical research in southern Europe. For more information ...

Implicación de RNAs de pequeño tamaño en la patogenicidad del virus de la gripe
RNA viruses are a major threat to human health. They also provide a fascinating window into cell biology since they interact intimately with the infected cell. Aims of the project are to decipher how emerging mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika virus efficiently translate their genomes in both mosquito and human translation machineries and how they modify the host gene expression program to their benefit.

The ASV Council is delighted to announce the 5th year of the award program to highlight excellence in virology: the ASV Ann Palmenberg Junior Investigator Awards. The purpose of these awards is to recognize junior investigators who have made significant contributions to the field of virology and who display exceptional promise. They are named in honor of former ASV president Dr. Ann Palmenberg, University of Wisconsin-Madison, for her tireless efforts over several decades in supporting and continually improving our society’s annual meeting.

A Contract within the Spanish Programme “Formación de Doctores 2016” is available for the research grant “THE EVOLUTION OF HOST RANGE AND VIRULENCE IN PLANT VIRUS EMERGENCE ”
Research will be developed at the Plant-Virus Interaction and Co-Evolution Group Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas UPM-INIA (CBGP) (www.cbgp.upm.es)
Research topics: The long-term goal of the group is to understand the evolution of plant-virus interactions. Within this broad field of research the pre-doctoral scientist to be recruited will participate in a programme of research on the Evolutionary Ecology of Virus Emergence, specifically on how ecosystem ...
