Viral diseases remain to be a significant public health burden worldwide. Continuous emergence of new viruses necessitate research in advancing environmental virology to fill the knowledge gaps for protecting individuals and communities from these pervasive nanoscale threats.
The conference focuses on basic and applied research in the areas of Food Safety and Health Impact of Viruses, Viral Stability and Inactivation, Emerging Technologies for Viral Disinfection and Treatment Processes, Viral Fate and Transport, Source Tracking, Risk Assessment, Epidemiology and the Impact of Climate Change on Viral Occurrence.
We aim to convene scientists from across the Virosphere, ranging from basic to applied virology, mixing medical, veterinary, wildlife, invertebrate and plant virology. There will be plenary sessions on themes that are informative and inspiring to virologists from all these areas, as well as sessions for a more specialized audience.
An opportunity for young scientists (PhD students and young post-docs) to meet and interact with internationally-recognized experts in the field, recognizing that successful mentoring requires a combination of critically reviewing scientific literature, sharing ideas and discussing new paradigms for future research.
The summer school will be of 4 full working days (plus arriving and departure days) that will be organized into:
i) a morning series of plenary lectures from experts in the field
ii) an afternoon series of presentation of young scientists’ research
iii) an evening series of small thematic discussion groups
Currently the panel of speakers includes:

Virology-2018 brings upon a new platform to share and discuss all the innovations in the Virology field.
Hepatitis E: Paradigm of a food-borne zoonotic emerging disease in Europe.
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is an under-recognised cause of acute hepatitis in high-income countries. Originally considered to be restricted to humans, it is now clear that HEV and HEV-like viruses have several animal reservoirs with complex ecology and genetic diversity. Although there is a single serotype, four major HEV genotypes (1-4) capable of infecting humans are currently recognized.
6th International Society for Food and Environmental Virology (ISFEV) Conference, Phoenix, Arizona, October 7-10, 2018.
Abstract submission for the oral presentation is due this Friday May 25, and for the poster presentation is due June 15, 2018.
Abstracts from the following areas are of particular interest to the planning committee:
· Food Safety and Health Impact of Viruses
· Viral Stability and Inactivation
· Emerging Technologies for Viral Disinfection and Treatment Processes
· Viral Fate and Transport
· Source Tracking
· Risk Assessment
· Epidemiology and the Impact of Climate Change on Viral Occurrence
